Meet Allan Meek, Director
Allan began his career with an apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering and this lead to project management, which he enjoyed. He worked for Nuaire for eight years as a Contracts Manager before moving to a French ventilation company where he worked for three years. In 1992 he created Group SCS and celebrated its 25-year anniversary in December 2017.
Allan stepped down from his position as Managing Director in 2018 after many years at the helm, handing over the reins to Christopher Jones who he has worked with since 2000. He still has a major role at Group SCS as an important part of the Senior Management Team, focusing on research and development in addition to new and exciting product innovations. He also leads the marketing team.
Recently, Allan took up the role of Chairman of the committee that oversaw the production of the Smoke Control Association’s revised ‘Guidance on Smoke Control to Common Escape Routes in Apartment Buildings’. He has also been able to use his vast industry knowledge in another important role – as a member of Working Group 2 (Installers) of the Independent Steering Group on Competences for Building a Safer Future which is taking forward key recommendations in Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety.
Allan, who has an MBA from Cardiff Metropolitan University, is also an Entrepreneur in Residence at Cardiff University.
Allan knows the importance of cultivating healthy business relationships with clients and is always eager to meet up with customers to discuss any issues and improve the way Group SCS works.
Allan is proud of the Group SCS staff and takes great pleasure in seeing people develop. He explained: “People tend to stay for a long time and it’s almost like another family.”
In his spare time, Allan enjoys boxing, live music and “playing guitar badly”. He likes to keep fit and in 2016 completed the Paris Marathon, raising cash for CRASH, the construction industry’s charity, along with a number of Group SCS colleagues.
Allan is also an avid traveller and likes to get out in the fresh air, regularly taking part in triathlons, climbing mountains and trekking. Ever the adventurer, Allan climbed Mount Everest in May 2017. Find out more about his adventure here.
