Meet Matt Thompson, Bid Manager

After leaving Coleg Gwent – Cross Keys, Matt began studying a HND in Computing at the University of Glamorgan, while at the same time working at a local bakery.

Matt started at Group SCS in August 2006 after finishing his computing course. He began by working in the supply-only sales arm of Group SCS. As Product and Service Co-ordinator, Matt’s role involved processing, packing and sending out orders, ordering equipment and updating the website. Four months later, he moved into the company’s Projects Division as a Trainee Project Engineer. He has since worked in a number of roles including Pre-Construction Manager and Bid Manager, both in the Pre-Construction team.

In his current role as Bid Manager, Matt’s work includes estimating, initial tender design review, bid writing, attending tender review/precontract meetings and commencing project procurement.

When asked what his favourite part of the job is, Matt replied: “Concluding successful tender bids.”

Away from Group SCS, Matt is kept busy running around after his daughter. He enjoys going to the gym, listening to dance/trance music and describes himself as having “quite a fondness of cars”. An avid Liverpool FC fan, he also follows sports including F1, boxing, rugby and rugby league.
