BESA has published an urgent warning regarding potentially unsafe fire damper installations

The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) advises that dampers installed with self-drilling screws could lead to them being pulled out of position allowing a fire to breach compartment boundaries.

They are urging those responsible for buildings to have their fire dampers checked by a competent contractor.

It is presumed that dampers are being maintained by a vendor that should be able to recognise and rectify this issue. The question at hand is how this problem can persist if dampers are maintained properly. One of the best ways to ensure the compliance of vendors is through third-party certification. It demonstrates competence and should be a must when employing fire safety specialists.
