TWO weeks after arriving in Nepal, SCS Group MD Allan Meek and his fellow expedition team members are busy making their way towards Mount Everest.

After spending time in Dingboche last week, the team made their way to Chukhung at 4,700m. On Friday, they had a rest day giving them a chance to acclimatise a bit more before moving on. They were able to do some rope training, preparing them for the challenges ahead.

Busy Easter weekend

On Saturday, before moving out of mobile phone signal area, Allan tells us they were due to leave Chukhung to go to Island Peak Base Camp where they were to stay for one night. They were then due to leave there on Sunday to climb to Island Peak High Camp where they were to stay for two nights. Easter Monday was expected to be the day that they summited Island Peak, at 6,189m, before heading back down to Island Peak High Camp.

The next few days should see Allan and his teammates trekking to Lobuche via Kongma La Pass, before trekking to Everest Base Camp, where there will be recovery, rest, acclimatisation days and more training.

Mount Everest summit awaits

The team – made up of people from Wales, Norway, Iceland, Mexico, England and Brazil – are aiming to attempt to reach Everest’s Summit between May 6 and May 26 – when they do this will be completely dependent on the weather situation there.
