SCS Group’s new Portsmouth office opened just a few weeks ago, with Contracts Manager Kevin Mowatt at the helm.
Working alongside Kevin is our new Project Manager Chris Taylor who has brought with him experience of working in the smoke control industry.
We spoke to Chris to find out more about him and how he got to SCS Group.
PM at Colt International
After leaving school, Chris worked at Fawley Oil Refinery in Southampton and in the facilities management sector before finally ending up in the smoke extract industry as a Project Manager at Colt International Ltd in April 2016. There he delivered smoke extract and day-to-day ventilation systems from project conception through to completion.
At Colt, he managed his project team on a daily basis to ensure that each project was delivered safely, on time and within budget. His team comprised commercial surveyors, technical and CAD engineers, commissioning engineers and document controllers.
He said: “I found the smoke extract side of the construction industry very rewarding and like delivering life safety systems into buildings as they are a crucial element in ensuring the safety of the people.”
He added: “I have been within the construction industry for 15 years now and have been involved in many different sectors but I have found the smoke control area the place where I belong and want to stay for the remainder of my career.”
Array of qualifications
Chris’ time working has seen him obtain many qualifications including NVQ diplomas in Access and Rigging, SSSTS, SMSTS, first aid, Prince 2 Foundation/Practitioner, and Risk Management. He says he intends to build on this skillset.
Now at SCS Group as a Project Manager, Chris will be delivering BEMS and smoke extract systems to our valued customers.
He said: “Our business plan is to expand within the southern region and to build our clientele and secure future key account members to ensure consistent projects are awarded to SCS Group.
“I love to multi-task on a large scale and learn something new every day regarding the technical side of our business.”
Outside of work, Chris is a big fan of Formula 1 racing and likes to do DIY around the home. He has four children who take up most of his free time – but he says “I wouldn’t have it any other way”. He is engaged to his girlfriend Jordan and they intend on getting married next summer.
