Estimator - Cardiff

Outline of Role

What you’ll do:

As Estimator, you will be based at our Cardiff head office and will report to the Bid Manager. You will use your knowledge and skills to develop and implement robust tenders throughout the business. This role will be responsible for the building and securing of tenders within the group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sourcing accurate costs for items such as materials, labour and equipment
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with key supply chain
  • Obtaining quotes from suppliers and subcontractors within a specified time frame
  • Assessing the risk levels associated with a project
  • Preparation and submission of Group SCS bid proposals
  • Assisting with bids for new contracts and supporting the activities of the Bid Manager
  • Monitoring the costs at different stages of a project tender to ensure they remain within the estimated costs

About You – What you will bring to us

  • The ability to work under pressure to meet set budgets and deadlines
  • Good proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and estimating software
  • The ability to read and understand architectural and mechanical/electrical drawings and specifications, to obtain accurate cost estimates specific to the project
  • The ability to manage time well and multitask
  • Strong understanding of the construction process
  • Developed analytical skills
  • Attention to detail
  • The ability to take constructive criticism


  • Good knowledge and experience working within the construction industry
  • Qualified to a minimum Level 3 standard (A-levels or equivalent)
