CAD Engineer - Cardiff

Outline of Role

What you’ll do:

As an experienced CAD Engineer, you will produce accurate engineering drawings compliant with the project specification and the latest building standards. Drawings will include electrical schematics, equipment layouts, builders’ work openings and mechanical details. You will be involved from tender through to handover of a project, and in doing so will meet the Company’s objectives in relation to service, profitability and the development of relationships with clients and other supply chain partners. You will report to the CAD/BIM Manager.

The role will primarily involve 2D AutoCAD, however experience of 3D modelling and BIM would be desirable. The candidate will be expected to complete the relevant document history in line with Group SCS quality procedures and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review tender documents, extract the necessary information and develop a schedule of information required for drawing purposes
  • Coordinate services to use when producing technical drawings for installation and pre-fabrication purposes
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain product information and the most appropriate component for the job
  • Liaise with the construction team to ensure information is accurate and up-to-date
  • Ensure the CAD/BIM Manager and the Project Manager are kept up-to-date on the progress of drawings
  • Use construction industry document collaborator sites to harvest information and upload drawings

About You – What you will bring to us

  • Minimum 2 years’ AutoCAD experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar multi-disciplinary role within building services, with smoke vent/HVAC/MEP/ductwork experience preferred
  • Experience delivering a mixture of developments ranging from multi-storey residential properties to commercial offices and car parks
  • A methodical and organised approach, with the ability to self-manage workload and act on own initiative
  • Be a strong communicator with good telephone skills and have the ability to contribute in technical design meetings with the client team
  • A contribution to the development of the design team with a proactive, helpful, can-do attitude

Qualifications

  • A City & Guilds qualification or the equivalent experience in the use of Autodesk drawing packages
  • Experience in the Construction or Building Services industry
  • Experience with online document control sites (4Projects, Aconex, Conject…)
  • An understanding of co-ordination, 3D modelling and BIM
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • An up-to-date CSCS card, and previous experience on live building sites would be advantageous, although not essential
