The Project

The Client
Group SCS has a longstanding relationship with Briggs and Forrester MEP, having worked on numerous landmark projects and delivered jobs ahead of schedule and often below budget, thanks to our value-engineered approach.
The Solution
Consisting of high-rise flats, this project was the perfect fit for Group SCS’s own UniForce mechanical extract shaft system, the first system of its kind available in the UK.

Our Involvement

Group SCS’s proven solution to smoke ventilation in high rise residential buildings is the UniForce mechanical smoke extract shaft system.

UniForce operates by utilising roof-mounted fans at the head of a smoke shaft situated within the apartment block’s lobbies. The shaft is mounted with a series of smoke dampers, and these – along with the fans – are controlled by a series of zone control panels and a main FAB panel located at the top of the building. These controls are linked to smoke/heat detectors and also to pressure sensors, to ensure air pressure doesn’t cause escape route doors to be held shut.

The system is accessible via a 5” HMI touchscreen on the ground floor, along with a series of fireman’s override switches throughout each stairwell.

Three such systems were specified and installed, protecting the lives of hundreds of residents and enabling easier fire fighter access should a blaze break out within the building.
