Meet Macarena Machado, Operations Manager
Macarena grew up in Tenerife and learned English at school, moving to the UK when she was 16 to attend a boarding school in Kent. She is 100% Spanish although not many people can tell – apart from her name. After school, she knew she wanted to go to university, but in her own words had no idea what she wanted to do. She decided to do something that would give her options, choosing a BA in Business Administration which she did at the University of the West of England, graduating in 1999. After that she did an MA in Marketing.
Macarena joined Group SCS as a graduate in 2001 and has been here ever since. As the company has grown, her role has adapted to suit the company. She’s managed the service department as well as the supply-only sales arm of the company. A vital part of Group SCS, it is often said that no-one knows how the company runs better than Macarena!
For the last ten years, Macarena has been Operations Manager, with responsibility for the company’s HR, as well supporting the Health & Safety, Quality and Environment Officer with quality and health and safety matters.
Macarena said: “I enjoy all parts of the job; I like the variety and that not one day is the same. It has also been really interesting seeing the company grow so much in this time, from around six members of staff when I joined, to 60 staff now with several offices around the country.”
Outside of work, Macarena is a busy mum-of-two who likes to keep fit and regularly attends yoga classes.
She said: “I also like baking and cooking for friends. I don’t have much spare time though as my two young children take most of it. They are into everything and enjoy lots of after-school activities, football, swimming, gymnastics, piano… the list goes on.”
