Meet Gareth Bowen, Manufacturing Manager

Gareth Bowen Group SCS

After finishing school, Gareth pursued a career in health and social care, where he worked with young people in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area, providing support and mentoring to help them return to education or find employment.

Once he became a parent, he decided to retrain and change career path, resulting in him joining an electrical company where he began installing smoke control and life safety systems for various clients, including Group SCS. While there he was responsible for both 1st and 2nd fix installations of smoke control equipment. His role involved interpreting drawings, coordinating with other contractors, and collaborating with project management, building control, and professional bodies to ensure compliance with regulations.

Gareth said: “I worked according to method statements, ensuring installations adhered to cause and effect requirements. Additionally, I played an active role in the commissioning process and in demonstrating the system to clients and Building Control Officers (BCOs).”

Now at Group SCS, Gareth describes his role as “diverse and dynamic”. He has spent time working in various areas of the business, including the factory – particularly within the Testing Department. His responsibilities have also encompassed providing technical support, assisting with sales, managing website enquiries and orders, and more recently, contributing to the implementation of a new ERP system.

Additional duties have included manufacturing planning, purchasing and procurement of materials, as well as supplying projects with both technical documentation and required goods.

Gareth said: “I really enjoy the variety of my role, no two days are ever the same. I like being involved from start to finish, solving problems, and seeing projects come together successfully. Working closely with both colleagues and customers gives me a real sense of achievement.”

In his spare time, Gareth enjoys spending time in the gym and going for walks in the countryside, as well as going on holiday. Recently he’s taken up welding adding “I have built my own BBQs and a smoker, which ties in perfectly with my biggest passion: food!”.
