Engaging with the community

Group SCS will be sponsoring the Dronfield Town FC U18s kit for the next two seasons as part of its pledge to engage with the community. We are proud to have sponsored the junior team several times as they have moved from U7s to U16s.

The importance of sponsorship

Mike Washbourne, who has recently finished running this junior side – taking it through this journey from U7s to U16s – said: “Sponsorship is vital for junior football. Dronfield Town has over 30 teams and although players pay an annual subscription, this is needed to pay for pitch fees and training facilities, so therefore sponsorship is required to pay for the team kits when they need replacing.

“Fortunately for our team, we have been generously supported by Group SCS throughout the seasons which is obviously much appreciated.”

Most of the players who Mike has worked with recently will now be going on to play for the U18s with three players also being selected to play for the U19s.

Mike, who works as Product Manager for Group SCS, said: “I think the thing that I am most proud of is, we got all the boys to play the game in the right way and in the right spirit, even if we were losing.”

Training throughout the year

Training takes place at Gosforth Fields Club, using grass in the summer and 3G Astro Turf in the winter. Over the years, Mike has worked with the team as they played in the Sheffield District Junior Sunday League which has teams from areas within 50 miles of the city centre.

He said: “Over the years we played against teams from Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Chesterfield and Worksop as well as teams from Denmark & Holland during an Easter tournament in Amsterdam last year.”
