Electric Chain Actuators

The electric chain actuator range (chain drives) is ideal for turning windows into auto-opening vents (AOVs) for daily ventilation and smoke control. Our range features a variety of metal-housed products for smoke control use, as well as composite-cased alternatives for natural, day-to-day ventilation.

What is an electric chain actuator?

The electric chain actuator, or chain drive as it is commonly known, consists of an electromotive drive system and a back-rigid chain core. In its closed (retracted) state, the chain is held in its housing for space-saving and aesthetic purposes. Upon extending, the chain stabilises and remains in a line in order to move the window by transmitting power from the actuator to the window itself.

What are the benefits of a chain actuator for window automation?

Chain actuators are ideal for window automation for intelligent natural ventilation systems or smoke control. They are precision designed and suitable for everyday control as well as complex control systems.

Its slim design, short length of the chain drive, and large strokes make the chain window actuator a great choice for a range of projects. Moreover, chain drives are easy to install and offer programmable parameters. When they are used as a pair, the option of the second DA actuator offers simple connectivity to the master chain drive. This saves on cabling, power, and isolation/termination points.

When it comes to the Group SCS chain window actuator range, all our products come with a 3-year repair warranty offered by the manufacturer, Simon Protec. This gives installers and building occupants alike peace of mind and guarantees the products’ exceptional quality.

When to use an electric chain actuator for window automation

An electric chain actuator is the perfect choice for Automatic Opening Vent systems. It is an affordable product that can turn most windows into AOVs that are suitable for natural ventilation as well as smoke vent systems.

Chain window actuators are easy and quick to install if the window frame is large enough for the actuator. They offer a wide range of force and stroke lengths that can be programmed into the actuator before installation, which makes them a versatile option suitable for different projects.

The electric chain actuator has a single motor with a low noise output and power use. The motor operates using reverse polarity and it’s essential to ensure access to it is available for maintenance after an actuator is installed.

Lastly, chain actuators have a seamless design that blends in with the window frame. In cases where multiple chain actuators are required on one window, synchronised versions of most chain actuators are available.
