Group SCS was delighted to be part of the redevelopment of No. 1 Court at Wimbledon, providing a new smoke ventilation system.

No. 1 Court, at the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), Wimbledon, underwent a three-year build project and Group SCS was involved from design to final completion.

The project was detailed in the Wimbledon Master Plan (April 2013) – full details here and part of this included a new retractable roof on No. 1 Court, which was unveiled to the public on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at a star-studded ceremony.

Group SCS was approached by the consultant, ME Engineers, back in October 2014 to assist with the design and integration of a new smoke ventilation system for No. 1 Court’s extension/refurbishment.

Our own UniForce system design was put together in conjunction with ME Engineers to provide smoke ventilation to each of the four firefighting cores to allow the safe evacuation of personnel and the entry of the fire service in the event of a fire.

On the back of the design work carried out for ME Engineers, Group SCS was specified as the preferred supplier for this project and was approached by a number of M&E contractors before being awarded the contract in November 2017.

Group SCS was contracted for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of our UniForce system to the four firefighting cores and the scope of our work comprised: free issue of run/standby smoke extract fan sets, for installation by ductwork contractor; supply and install lobby AOV equipment; supply and install EV pressure control panel and pressure plates; supply and install main control and HMI panels; supply and install local fire override switches and maintenance switches; supply and install electrical wiring and containment; commissioning.

Shaun Montgomery, Group SCS Project Manager, said: “The most enjoyable part of this project was being on site providing solutions to an array of different issues.

“It has been a really interesting project to be involved in and has allowed me to work closely with our knowledgeable engineers within a challenging environment.”
