This project entailed converting a 20-storey office block into a luxury hotel. Designing in the 60’s, the building only contained a single staircase, meaning there were obstacles to overcome on the fire safety side.

Our Involvement
Group SCS had been brought on board by McCann and Partners to design a staircase pressurisation system to protect the escape routes.
Our solution
A class B pressurisation system was designed featuring 22kW run and standby fans located at ground floor level with a natural air release shaft in the lobbies to permit the 2m/s open door velocity for fire fighting protection. The system was commissioned during the night to prevent disturbance to airflows.
