Project Background
Bellway Homes is building 229 high-quality riverside apartments overlooking the Thames as part of the £100m redevelopment of the Greenwich Peninsula area. This is the first phase of a development that will see a new community of 10,000 new homes built as well as 3.5 million square feet of office space and over 150 shops and restaurants.
Endorsing the Peninsula development’s strong sustainability agenda, all new apartments will have an EcoHomes ‘Excellent’ rating, and a 4 star Code for Sustainable Homes rating.

The Project
Our Involvement
Group SCS designed and installed three mechanical smoke ventilation systems to two blocks and a natural ventilation system to a third. On all cores we incorporated a daily ventilation mode to the equipment to maintain comfortable temperatures and ensure corridors do not become overheated.
After designing and installing a complex car park ventilation system using jet fans, car park walls were lined with noise-absorbent material to ensure any potential disturbance to nearby residents was eliminated.
A smoke control system was installed to ensure a 10 m clear view for firefighters in a fire situation.
We used CFD modelling to design all systems from local building control. On completion Group SCS staged a demonstration to London Fire Brigade to verify the system’s capabilities.
