Greenwich Peninsula Plots 114 and 115

Project title: Plots 114 and 115

Location: London

Client: Wates Building Services

Service: Smoke Control

Project Background

The impressive Greenwich Peninsula development is set to be a flourishing district comprising 62,500 sqm of commercial, retail and office space. Located one Tube stop from Canary Wharf and in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Knight Dragon’s Greenwich Peninsula will have more than 10,000 residential units across 51 residential developments, providing homes for 23,000 people.

The residential units will combine with 48 acres of open green spaces and will be located alongside shops, hotels, schools and public facilities, all outlined by 1.6 miles of waterfront. Greenwich Peninsula, one of the largest regeneration schemes in Europe, is located right next to The O2 and the Emirates Air Line Cable Car. Work at the site is planned to take around 20 years in total.

The Project

The Client
In summer 2014, Group SCS was commissioned by Wates Building Services, main contractor for Plots 114 and 115 at Greenwich Peninsula, to carry out smoke extract work at the site.
Our Involvement
For Plot 114, which comprises 201 apartments, we used our innovative UniVent natural system. For Plot 115 (Core A), which comprises 144 apartments, we used our UniForce mechanical smoke ventilation system. We also used our UniJet car park ventilation system for both buildings’ car parks.

Our Solution

We designed, supplied and commissioned the smoke ventilation systems on both buildings to comply with Fire Engineering Consultants Jeremy Gardener Associates’ (JGA) fire strategy and to comply with Building Services Consultants Foreman Roberts’ specifications. Including our sub-contractors, there were around 15-20 Group SCS staff involved in this project. We handed over Plot 115 (Core A) on October 5, 2015, and Plot 114 on November 4, 2015.

Curtis Rees, Group SCS Project Engineer, said: “This was the biggest project I’ve worked on so far and I was really pleased with the result. It was a demanding project, however by working with Wates Building Services and our supply chain we were able to deliver the project on time and to the customer’s satisfaction.”

Tom Dornan, MEP Project Director at Wates Building Services:
“Faye Young (Regional Manager, London and South) sorted any issues. I would go to Faye to get any problems resolved. Group SCS reacted to issues as soon as they were made aware of them and they tried to sort them out straight away. I found them professional to work with."
