Looking for an apprenticeship with an award-winning company? Keen to learn your trade from the best in the industry? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Apprenticeships

Group SCS is a great believer in apprenticeships and has helped a number of people get into the construction industry via apprenticeship schemes. We believe that apprenticeships can really have a positive effect on individuals, businesses and the economy.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a scheme that lets you combine both experience and qualifications, helping you kickstart your career. Most apprentices study for one day a week and work at a company, such as ours, for the rest of the week. This means you can earn while learning and working toward your qualification.

The Group SCS apprenticeships

In the past, we have worked with a number of fantastic education providers including South Thames College and Bridgend College to provide apprenticeships. Depending on the level of your own personal apprenticeship, it usually takes one to four years to complete the scheme.

Apprentice spotlight

Curtis Rees, Senior Project Manager
Curtis-Rees-scs Senior Project Manager Curtis Rees started as an apprentice at Group SCS back in January 2011. His path to Group SCS saw him working at the Department of Work and Pensions and also at an Asda store. However, after hearing about apprenticeships at Group SCS he decided to apply and find out what the company had to offer. He soon found out that an apprenticeship with the company was a great way to start out in the construction industry. When he began at Group SCS he was a Trainee Project Engineer, based at our Cardiff office. He assisted Project Engineers and Project Managers with their projects and received support and guidance along the way. His role also saw him printing drawings and filing information on the server and in project folders. As part of the apprenticeship he undertook a BTEC L3 in Electrical Engineering at Coleg Morgannwg, Nantgarw (September 2011 to June 2014). He also completed a HNC in Building Services Engineering at Bath College which he began in September 2014. These days Curtis plays a major role in many of our projects - he works mainly at our Cardiff office but visits sites across the UK on a regular basis.

"The apprenticeship scheme at Group SCS has helped me gain knowledge in college studies whilst progressing in my day to day work in the office. I’ve received a great deal of support and guidance from colleagues in work along with support with college work when required, overall a great experience and look forward to my future within the Group."

Josh Parkhurst - Commissioning Engineer

Edd - Commissioning Engineer (BEMS)

“It took a while to get the necessary course criteria covered at work, but I am happy with the end result and believe the effort was well worth it”

Curtis Rees - Senior Project Manager

“My favourite part of my job is being consistently challenged to come up with solutions to problems due to each project being unique. I find I work best when working in a team and I enjoy learning from the more experienced members of the team”
