MOUNT Everest awaits for SCS Group MD Allan Meek and his fellow team members who are currently making their way towards the mountain’s base camp.

It follows an eventful few days which saw them climbing all the way to the top of Island Peak, approximately 6,189m.

The latest part of their expedition began on Easter day when they made their way from Island Peak Base Camp up to its High Camp, at 5,900m.

‘I underestimated Island Peak!’

Allan said: “It was a long, hard slog through rock and then snow and ice with a few crevices thrown in. I so underestimated Island Peak!”

On Easter Monday, the group targeted Island Peak’s summit and were overjoyed to all make it to the top.

Allan said: “It felt like a 1km vertical wall of snow and ice. We jumared up on a fixed line and abseiled down. It was really hard work and great training for Everest.”

After a second night at Island Peak High Camp, the group returned back down the mountain and went back to Chukhung.

Today, Wednesday, April 19, they were due to trek to Lobuche via Kongma La Pass, before heading off to Everest Base Camp tomorrow (Thursday, April 20).

Once at Everest Base Camp they will have a series of recovery and rest days, as well as training and more climbs, before they prepare for their Mount Everest summit push (May 6-May 26, depending on weather).

Don’t forget that you can keep updated with the latest news via our website or follow us on LinkedIn at or Twitter @groupscs and use the hashtag #FollowAllan. Allan’s had fantastic support through our social media channels and we’d like to say thank you for all your well wishes.

Allan is part of an expedition organised by a Nepalese company called Ascent Himalayas. He has been sponsored in his quest by SCS Group and if he’s successful, he will be out flying the company flag when he returns.
