SCS Group is proud to have been included in the Building Good Employer Guide 2017 – the fifth time it has made the list.

The Building Good Employer Guide 2017 lists the top 50 construction companies in the industry, focusing on high standards when it comes to working conditions, training and development, benefits and work-life balance.

Chloё McCulloch, Deputy Editor of Building magazine, says in her introduction to this year’s guide: “This year’s guide is proof that some employers are overturning old cultures, with the vast majority embracing flexible working for all staff and many making the effort to curb long hours.”

‘Changing public’s perceptions’

She added: “Beyond these rewards these individual companies reap from their efforts, we should recognise that they are also doing a service to the wider industry by helping to change the public’s overwhelmingly negative perceptions of construction. When teachers and careers advisers are telling pupils that careers in construction are unattractive, there is a clear need to show the industry at its best and to shout loudly about the opportunities it offers young people.

“These top employers have set the bar high and their achievements are truly commendable.”

SCS Group said in its application to be considered for the Guide: “We’ve reviewed all salaries in the business and introduced a new pay structure that ensures parity and links increased responsibilities to salary progression.”

‘Always interested to hear staff’s ideas’

Macarena Machado, Operations Manager at SCS Group, said: “Being included in the Building Good Employer Guide 2017 is something we’re very proud of. Keeping our staff happy and involved is always a priority, whether that be through meetings, appraisals or social events. We prioritise listening to our staff and they know that we are always interested to hear their ideas.

“Being recognised by the Building Good Employer Guide for the fifth time is truly great news.”

Readers of Building that are eligible to enter Building’s other ‘Top’ tables, such as consultants, contractors and housebuilders, and other industry firms were invited to take part in the selection process for the Good Employer Guide 2017 through a call for entries published in print and online. More than 180 companies registered to be considered for the guide.
