After completing A-levels at Crosskeys College, Rhys began his career with ducting manufacturer Isotemp Ductwork, based in Cwmbran. He worked at Isotemp for approximately six years, starting there as a Trainee Ventilation Draughtsman within its design team, working with AutoCAD and CADDuct MEP. He soon became a Senior Draughtsman, preparing high quality, technical 3D drawings for prestigious UK projects such as Arsenal’s Emirates Football Stadium – London, St Davids 2 Shopping Centre – Cardiff and Johnson and Johnson Project Horizon by Bridgend.
Rhys then moved to Nuaire as its first residential Design Estimator, joining a small team of current estimators. Within two years he earned a senior position in the office. During this time he was influential with the introduction of Revit MEP software moving away from the previous AutoCAD 2D design package. After approximately three-and-a-half years he became the team leader of the Residential Estimating Team. He oversaw the recruitment and training of the department whilst continuing to improve the bespoke Revit software.
After five successful years at Nuaire, Rhys began working at SCS Group as its BIM/CAD Design Manager in February 2016.
Rhys said: “My new role is an exciting challenge whilst learning about a new section of the ventilation industry that I haven’t worked in previously. I will be aiming to improve the current design service offered whilst recreating SCS Group’s vast range of products to a full BIM-ready status and ultimately I hope to help to contribute towards SCS Group’s success for many years to come.”
Away from work, Rhys enjoys keeping fit and recently completed the Cardiff World Half Marathon. He also enjoys following a wide range of sports, travelling and poker from time to time.
