Olly Lucas, Service Manager

WHEN Olly left school he wasn’t sure what to do, so he chose to follow a path of study related to his hobbies. He started with a catering course and worked in kitchens with the aim of becoming a chef. Unfortunately, the course was cut short due to a lack of numbers so Olly then decided to study for a BTEC in Music Technology at his local college in Street, Somerset. After this he decided to do a BSc in Music Technology, moving to Wales to be a student at the University of Glamorgan. While at university he sang and played guitar in a band called Porchlight, saying he secretly had dreams of becoming a rock star.

After University, Olly began working at Legal and General, while also working part-time as an Usher at the Wales Millennium Centre (WMC), in Cardiff Bay. He said: “It was while working at the WMC that I met a friend who introduced me to Airvent. They needed someone to help set up their new service database, which interested me because I enjoy working with computers and having a project to work on.”

While at Airvent, Olly set up the new database and had a brief spell assisting in accounts. He then moved to Exeter and worked for a financial services firm, Capita Sinclair Henderson, looking after their corporate actions.

Olly said: “I didn’t enjoy financial services much and felt I could develop more in an engineering services environment.  I also missed Cardiff so decided to move back to Airvent.”

For a number of years at Airvent, Olly managed the national scheduling role for the service department, encompassing some 30 engineers, and then took over a specific area (North, Scotland and Ireland) as an Area Controller. While at Airvent he completed an MBA at Cardiff University and is currently completing a HNC in Building Services Engineering.

Olly began working at SCS in April 2016 as Service Manager, looking after SCS Group’s Support Division.

Olly said: “At SCS I’m excited by the challenge of building up the service department and helping to develop the systems and processes that will be needed along the way.  So far the Group seems really well set up and the support of colleagues is brilliant.  The atmosphere is relaxed but professional, which is what I had hoped it would be and helps motivate me to push on and help the team succeed. I am also looking forward to joining in with some of the charity sporting events having done a few previously.”

Olly is currently enjoying learning about the systems at SCS, while keeping up with the day-to-day tasks. He said: “It’s challenging but very satisfying as I’m learning more. I enjoy dealing with multiple customers and queries while striving to maintain service standards. It’s great to build relationships and meet the expectations of customers old and new.”

Outside of work Olly enjoys running, cycling and kite surfing, although having two kids means he doesn’t get as much time to do these as he used to. He enjoys cooking and often likes to relax by putting on a playlist and spending time in the kitchen.
